#65 – “Whatever anybody says or does, assume positive intent.” Indra Nooyi, Chairman and CEO of Pepsico.

“When you assume negative intent, you’re angry,” says Ms. Nooyi. “If you take away that anger and assume positive intent, you will be amazed. Your emotional quotient goes up.  You don’t get defensive. You don’t scream. You are trying to understand and listen because at your basic core you are saying, “Maybe they are saying something to me that I’m not hearing.”  From the May 2008 issue of Fortune.

Try this the next time someone is giving you a hard time about something.  See if it actually changes the dynamic between you.

About sand1

When I was young, I made a lot of bad choices. The only way I knew to dig myself and my family out was to go to the library, always hoping that the next book I read would change my life and thankfully, often many of them did. Out of gratitude for the happy life I have now, I decided to share what I have learned, and continue to learn. I hope that Tuesday Tips helps you as much as they have helped and continue to help me.
